Summertime Safety

The Woodland Hills Homeowner’s Association would like to remind homeowners of important summertime safety tips as we head into the 4th of July and the heat of the summer.

Pool Safety
For those with a home pool or who enjoy community pools, please be sure to monitor chemical levels and watch your children at all times, especially those who are not strong swimmers!

Grill Safety
We all love outdoor cooking, but many house fires are caused by unmonitored outdoor grills. Be sure to keep the area surrounding a grill free of debris, leaves, etc that could be flammable. After grilling, be sure to turn off the grill or extinguish coals or other heat sources. Store a fire extinguisher close by for emergency use.

Nighttime Safety
Enjoying summer nights is a great thing, but be sure to use reflectors on driveways, posts, and on yourself to prevent damage or injury from traffic. If you go walking, it is safer to go in groups. Be sure to have the local sheriff’s office phone number saved in your phone in case you observe an incident or need immediate assistance. Stay clear of areas that are not well lit. Carry a flashlight with you to alert oncoming traffic and to see debris or obstacles in your path.

Pet Safety
Pets are valued members of the family. But, remember that your pet is YOUR responsibility and your liability in the case of an incident. Keep your pet on a leash at all times whether at home or on a walk. Keep all yards clean as you walk your pet. Make sure all pets have a collar with identification on them. Any outdoor pets must be fenced.

Home Safety and Security
Home security is the responsibly of each homeowner, but we can always look out for one another. If you see something suspicious, call the sheriff’s office or 911 if needed. Keep doors and windows locked at all times. Always leave outdoor and indoor lights on while you are gone, and ideally at night.

4th of July Safety
As we celebrate the birth of our nation, it is important to respect the safety and peace of our neighbors. Please do not shoot fireworks at neighbors’ homes or property, and maintain proper shooting hours. Remember that many neighbors work even on the 4th of July, so they need their sleep! All fireworks shooting is YOUR responsibility and liability, so do so responsibly. Lastly, pickup all leftover debris after you finish. There is no one coming after you to cleanup!
