Summertime Safety

The Woodland Hills Homeowner’s Association would like to remind homeowners of important summertime safety tips as we head into the 4th of July and the heat of the summer.

Pool Safety
For those with a home pool or who enjoy community pools, please be sure to monitor chemical levels and watch your children at all times, especially those who are not strong swimmers!

Grill Safety
We all love outdoor cooking, but many house fires are caused by unmonitored outdoor grills. Be sure to keep the area surrounding a grill free of debris, leaves, etc that could be flammable. After grilling, be sure to turn off the grill or extinguish coals or other heat sources. Store a fire extinguisher close by for emergency use.

Nighttime Safety
Enjoying summer nights is a great thing, but be sure to use reflectors on driveways, posts, and on yourself to prevent damage or injury from traffic. If you go walking, it is safer to go in groups. Be sure to have the local sheriff’s office phone number saved in your phone in case you observe an incident or need immediate assistance. Stay clear of areas that are not well lit. Carry a flashlight with you to alert oncoming traffic and to see debris or obstacles in your path.

Pet Safety
Pets are valued members of the family. But, remember that your pet is YOUR responsibility and your liability in the case of an incident. Keep your pet on a leash at all times whether at home or on a walk. Keep all yards clean as you walk your pet. Make sure all pets have a collar with identification on them. Any outdoor pets must be fenced.

Home Safety and Security
Home security is the responsibly of each homeowner, but we can always look out for one another. If you see something suspicious, call the sheriff’s office or 911 if needed. Keep doors and windows locked at all times. Always leave outdoor and indoor lights on while you are gone, and ideally at night.

4th of July Safety
As we celebrate the birth of our nation, it is important to respect the safety and peace of our neighbors. Please do not shoot fireworks at neighbors’ homes or property, and maintain proper shooting hours. Remember that many neighbors work even on the 4th of July, so they need their sleep! All fireworks shooting is YOUR responsibility and liability, so do so responsibly. Lastly, pickup all leftover debris after you finish. There is no one coming after you to cleanup!

Community Cleanup Day

The Woodland Hills Homeowners’ Association is planning a community cleanup day on June 4-5, 2022. As part of this day, there will be a dumpster provided where all dues-paying homeowners within Woodland Hills can discard authorized items.

Authorized Items Include:
Household items
Yard Debris
Old Furniture

Unauthorized Items Include:
Paint
Appliances
Tires
Food/Garbage
Electronics
Concrete
Batteries

To volunteer to assist HOA-wide efforts during the community cleanup day, please contact HOA president Ted Brown at tjbrown1980@icloud.com.

Reminder of Mobile County Animal Control Ordinance

The primary responsibility of the Mobile County Animal Control division is to enforce the Mobile County’s animal control ordinances or the Alabama state statutes in the Mobile County unincorporated communities, specifically impounding dogs roaming at large and investigation of other animal issue violations or abuse. This is required by Alabama law to protect the health and safety of our citizens as well as the animals (The Reverence For All Life). Most of the dogs picked up are abandoned animals left to their own resources to survive on the streets. These animals live in harsh environmental conditions, scavenging for food and are subject to serious illnesses and injuries. We are required to pick up these animals and place them on a seven-day hold that would allow an owner, if there is one, to reunite with them.

The Code Of Alabama Title 3-1-5 is to issue warnings/citations to pet owners who let their dogs run freely. The Dangerous Dog Act 2012-235 requires the Animal Control officers to impound dogs with severe physical injuries, that have established a pattern of being a nuisance, or ones that damage the property of others.

Animal Control Officers also investigate cases of domestic animal abuse and neglect. Often, the reports come in from the public. Officers respond to all cases reported to them. If there is probable cause to believe that an animal is at risk, the Officers will immediately open an investigation. These investigations can lead to prosecution by the District Attorney, and it is the job of the Animal Control Officers to testify in court regarding their findings.

Hours of Operation

  • Monday through Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Saturday at 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
  • Closed: On designated County/State/Federal Holidays

Note*** During closed hours, an Animal Control Officer is on Stand-by Duty to respond to any emergency calls which are considered to be an extreme emergency such as listed below.

  • Dog or cat bites that break the skin, which occurred on the same day as the call (unless the animal is confined)
  • Animal Abuse/Cruelty (if the animal is in distress or immediate danger)
  • Stray dog on a highway, busy street and interfering with a commercial business
  • Loose, aggressive dog
  • A sick or injured stray dog ( unless an animal is with a skin condition or body defect)

Halloween Schedule and Details

We are currently taking a poll on the Woodland Hills Facebook page as to which day our homeowners prefer for Trick or Treating this year.  You may take this poll by clicking here. Times will be between 5 – 8 p.m.  Those participating in Halloween should leave all house lights on…otherwise it will be assumed that you are not participating.  There is also a consideration of the HOA cooking the remaining food from the recent block party – stay tuned for further details
